Right now they need 4 since last Monday wasn't going to be a student day and Tuesday was their one freebie. They'll have to makeup Wednesday-today.
The could go with Feb 16, 17, March 20 and April 15 and avoid days at the end if no more days are cancelled. That said what are the chances that there are no more cancelations? Gotta start with the two days in February and give people that have to be out excused absences.

This would make the most sense.

But the Feb 16-17 days aren’t designated as makeup days. Far more likely they do march 20, April 15, June 18 and then keep adding on in June days. Far more useful to have makeup days not at the end of June if you want teachers to actually teach, I just don’t think it’s likely that McPS uses Feb 16-17.

Feb 16th/Presidents Day is typically prohibited from being a makeup day by the state, but MSDE just approved making it an option for school districts this year.

I can't imagine them doing that when there are other actually designated makeup days available.

MCPS missed 5 school days after Monday (which was scheduled to be off). 1 was a designated snow day, so fine.

The other four missed says are not snow days. There are only 3 makeup days in calendar. March 20, April 15 and June 18. I think they use those 3 first and apply for a waiver so they don’t make up the 4th snow day.

And if more snow/sleet/ice comes in Feb or March, I bet they do the same as last year and just add a bunch of half days in June but hint that kids shouldn’t come because for teachers rhe school year is done

There re a bunch of make up days in June. They will use those, making them half days. That is what they always do.

The won’t be ble to get a waiver becauee they will fail to use the earlier days. Have to use all makeup days to get a waiver.

Under the current rules, yes.

Today was a work day for MCPS staff, I'm surprised they didn't announce the makeup days. People want to know.

It would be much better for learning to have designated makeup days in February rather than end june, but McPS designed the calendar that way for a reason

Did we only have ONE built in snow day in 2009? There have to be some repercussions for such poor planning

Apparently not if you're MCPS. Anne Arundel have Baltimore have 3 snow days built into their calendar, and submitted their virtual learning plan to MSDE so they could offer online instruction last week.

MCPS is the slacker school district, despite its massive budget. It had a deficit of 3 snow days last year, yet...here we are with a deficit of 5 snow days this year.

Who could have predicted there might be snow?

Now compare the size of MCPS to Anne Arundel and Baltimore counties.

NYC is 10x larger than MCPS and managed to open every single day last week. And they have more than one snow day built into the calendar too. And school buses.
Actually they have ZERO! https://www.city-journal.org/article/zohran-mamdani-new-york-snow-day-teachers-contract

Unlike McPS, NYC schools don’t need them, since they didn’t miss a single day due to the snow. They had virtual for the Monday and in person every dance since.

You all fail to see the problem. Other counties do not have Jewish holidays, Muslim holidays, lunar, diwali days off. Also those counties are much smaller. We have parents here who want to have religious holidays, don’t want to start earlier in August, and want to end in mid june and don’t want virtual learning. Too bad mcps is stuck with such parents who want everything and then complain when they cant.

Actually Fairfax County observes those same holidays, but starts a week earlier in August than MCPS. That way they don't consistently shortchange their kids 180 days the way MCPS does.
They also have the LONGEST non-year round calendar in history! August 18-June 17 and that is for students, teachers? August 11-June 18 (new teachers August 4-June 18). They start at 180 days minus the number of days closed for snow.
