Yeah, Dunbar is great. For someone going to school in 1952

I would suggest staying in the Dunbar, Roosevelt, school district. Those schools are good for public school

OP doesn’t seem to have been intending to impress you, only to express an interest their child would like to continue in HS that is therefore a useful factor in making a decision.

Lots of schools could fit the bill. Many schools offer Mandarin, but what does he want to do with it? What do you envision him doing with those language skills? Summer immersion programs in China are extra $$$ -- but many schools offer travel / touring programs for students to apply the language.

Down to earth parents may well be cohort-dependent, unfortunately.

Whatever school you ultimately decide on, expect some ECs or other offerings your child takes to be outside of the school. Friends @ Holton, GDS, WIS, NCS, and Sidwell all do extracurriculars beyond the school to complement the academic and other programs offered at their individual schools.

I am afraid there is no such school available. Maybe Field school? But how can a school charge $50K and not be pretentious? That is not possible.

What are Field families like?

I know of so many kids who have left Basis. Yes, desperation is the word!

Basis McLean has long been and still desperate for students.

OMG no to Basis- please see other threads on this school- it is NOT a well rounded place that works towards the well-being of the whole child.
