The teen also could have talked to OP or her own parent. Like my 7 year old talked to me.

The OP was in the room. The teenager could have asked the preschooler to leave, asked the OP for help, or possibly moved to a room with a door (it's unclear to me where this happened). Hitting isn't an option for 2 year olds in my family. The idea that somehow at 15 it should be suddenly allowed again is bizarre.

OP's update also said the 5 year old was successfully redirected then came back and the 15 year old hit the kid a few minutes later. This wasn't going on for very long at all.

Don't get me wrong threatening a teenager also isn't a good look. My guess is also this 15 year old was taught to hit by being hit herself as a kid. So I absolutely side eye the adults here who are ultimately responsible.

But hitting kids just teaches them to hit others.

Oh BS. I have a 15 year old and no way he would smack on of his cousins no matter how annoying they were being. He would move away or talk to his aunt and uncle or me or his Dad before he would do that.

Everyone in this scenario sounds like a piece of work to me. Bratty four year old, bratty teen, and two adults who don't like each other and can't control their tempers. What a nightmare.

No, they’re people who realize that 15 year olds are employee as camp counselors and babysitters and if they hit a kid in those contexts, there are police/cps consequences.

The teenager isn’t getting paid in this situation, whereas a camp counselor is. The teenager also tried to get away from the five year-old. The five year-old parent was present and didn’t attempt to intervene. Huge difference between this situation and being a camp counselor.

^^That mom in essence was stating, "My little Prince can do whatever he wants and you will tolerate it," and the father was stating, "I've watched your kid impose on my kid and didn't say anything. But I'm not going to stand by and let you yell at my kid after you ignored his bad behavior."
