And personally I saw it as when he saw it was going to be an issue when he decided to leave. But I do know several people who were very loyal to Weast and thought highly of him and willing to jump through a ring of fire for him. So just my point of view.

As for high ranking administrator, there might be different levels or definitions of high ranking. Since I come from more of a central office background, my definition of high level administrator is someone on the superintendent's leadership team. Which from what I'm gathering, but may be wrong, OP is not.


OP said they're an administrator at a high school.


Oops missed that somehow. lol, are there school staff that really refers to themselves as a high-ranking administrator?

Weast did not decide to leave. He was canned after he and his wife were caught taking an all expense paid two week trip to Australia from Pearson within weeks of his surprise announcement that MCPS would be converting to Pearson Curriculum.

This is normal, OP. My kids did this as well. No one at school batted an eye. It's actually a good thing for teens to learn what to prioritize in their lives. I don't think anybody at school begrudges a high-performing kid looking to get into a good college for their absences, considering that college admissions is determined in large part by what kids do OUTSIDE of school. Schools are worried about low-performing students who skip school.


No its not normal and I don't allow it. They will not go to their activities if they get behind. Simple.


Then you're in the tiny, crazy, minority. I've had two kids go through high school, and parents usually encourage their kids to stay home in order to recuperate from illness or stress, finish work for school or other institutions, participate in competitions, etc. I haven't met one teacher who wasn't supportive of this as well. My kid has missed school to attend violin competition in NYC or other places, for example. Her friend missed several days to fly to a different continent to attend a science competition final. If the kids are getting straight As in their AP classes and not missing one iota of homework for school, there is absolutely no reason to place more importance on school attendance than these important extra-curriculars.

But my guess is that you don't have kids in high school, PP. Otherwise you'd know this.

No, it’s not ok. Get them a therapist and treatment id they need mental health days.

Weast allowed sexual predators to stay in classrooms. Weast took bribes from vendors and awarded massive no bid contracts. Weast used MCPS money to invest in private companies. Those investments tanked. Weast hid revenue from the County Council and robbed children. Weast sued special education parents. Weast rigged enrollment data. Weast gutted policies and made sure the Board of Education transferred power to him and him alone.







I believe this. In many ways, Taylor is absolutely following in Weast's footsteps.
