+1 - so weird that this is even a question. So opinionated about everyone's business but their own dry white business.

I cannot for the life of me understand why a parent would put a child through something painful for aesthetic reasons. I remember being at the mall once while a young child was forced to get their ears pierced, you could hear the screaming halfway across the mall.

I wouldn’t necessarily label them “trashy”, I would assume they are bad parents who put their own desires above their child.

I did not pierce my daughter’s ears or circumcise my son when they were babies. One of my close friends chose differently. She is one of the classiest people I know. Respect for other people and their choices is classy.

PP--not at all. How are these two things even related?

It’s cultural. Often done around baptism. It’s a better idea than waiting until they’re 9. Active and refusing help with hygiene. The number of infections in that age group is shocking.

It's not just obscene but dumb. As a piercing professional explained to me, ears change so much in the early years that once the the child is ten the holes may be in bad spots, uneven, uncentered, too low, too high, etc. If you pierce around age ten or so, you can place the hole in the right spot that won't change much over the years.

Why do babies even need piercings w/o their consent? Would you also tattoo a baby w/o consent?

In Spain it is very common and indeed it would be unusual for a Spanish girl not to have pierced ears from infancy.

It’s NMS. Same with shoes on babies that are not walking age or otherwise dressing them like mini-adults.

It is body modification. Kind of like circumcision. Cultural or not, I am not a fan.

I don't think any piercings should be done until mid teens. Any body modification should wait unitl the individual decides they want to permanently alter their bodies in that way.
