Yes. When I moved to China for work, one of the apartments the realtor showed us had a squat toilet. And they were in many restaurants. I encountered squat toilets at a few places in Kyiv and Sofia, too.

The dirtiest bathroom I ever saw was at a little pub in the Czech countryside.


All these European squat-toilets make me not want to visit there.

I've encountered the squat toilets with the hole in the ground in France at several places with blobs of someone's feces sitting on the porcelain on the ground.

American toilets and bathrooms are luxurious.

It's the same now. Was there 2 weeks ago and encountered that in several very nice cafes.

American bathrooms are generally kind of middle of the pack to me. They're no Japan but there's worse out there.

I remember using some public bathrooms in Italy that were essentially rooms with a drain to squat over. That was a long time ago, though.

This should be the norm everywhere. But the people that want to do other things in the bathroom (?? I don't know what? Sex? Drugs?) always ruin it for everyone.
