I agree. My kids go to a super liberal school and we've never had a drag queen at an assembly or anything remotely like that. This poster is just trying to stir up crap.

For those that don't think Drag is the same as any other performative art can you explain it to me?

Would you be mad if it was clowns? or people dressed like the 18th century?

Do you just associate drag = sex?

What is going on in your brain... insight needed.

Gender is performance, drag or otherwise. Judith Butler explained this a million years ago.

Ru Paul’s Drag Race is on mainstream tv. From an educational perspective, I hope there’s a context for this assembly because otherwise it seems kinda random. But I don’t see a problem with the content. And most kids won’t either unless they are conservative and anxious.

Good lord, OP. Have you never been to a drag show? Drag Queen Brunch? Drag Story Time?

It's fun and a performance; good chance for you and your kid to learn about someone beyond yourselves -- and actually meet these drag artists as real people.

Typically the appropriation of the immutable physical characteristics of a historically oppressed class of people by the historic oppressor class for entertainment purposes is frowned upon.

Is it the long hair or the make up that offends you? None of these are "immutable."

Now do skin color, vocal pitch, hips, and breasts.

Can’t to hear your defense of minstrelsy.

You evidently have never witnessed man boobs and as a a deeper toned voice naturally, I'm good with leaving the higher register to who ever wants it.

Skin color? Get lost

Who knew so many people on DCUM endorsed racist and sexist minstrel entertainment to benefit the oppressor class. Surprise, surprise.

If this isn’t a troll post, name the school. It won’t out you personally.

It is true. I don’t plan to name the school. I’m assuming the person won’t actually be in drag or perform in drag but will likely (hopefully?) just talk about drag performing. I guess everyone has different tolerance levels for what is appropriate at school.

What is the presentation about? That’s of more interest than the presenter.
