What the heck is “bra strap length” hair? Why wouldn’t you say shoulder length or is it something different than that?

Not sure why everyone is jumping on you. I have curly hair and the rest of my family has straight. Straight hair is easier to take care of and easier to make it look nice. So yeah, people with straight hair should appreciate that they lucked out in that regard.
That doesn't mean those of us with curly hair wish it was straight but it is objectively more work.

+1. Curls, past the shoulder, cut in layers. Diffuse dry and wear the bonnet at night and my curls last for days.

Yes, it’s been a black thing for a long time because of the need to protect the curls. It’s also a white thing if you have curls that you don’t want to restyle every single day. Friction on the pillow case causes frizz. A satin bonnet decreases frizz.

Stain pillowcases work too. Don't need a bonnet.

I'm white but maybe I was ahead of my time - in college (late 80s) I had long, very curly hair. I would bend at the waist and secure it in a ponytail on top of my head (now called a pineapple bun/pony?) using a folded bandana. It preserved my curls for the next day.
