Dogs are like little kids...not everyone likes or needs them and they are all different. Some dogs are super high maintenance and always needing something or grooming, others are so low key that you may only need to bathe them every few months and can go to a job knowing they will be fine during the workday with you gone. It also depends on the age and breed they are. I intentionally get dogs that fit in to our family lifestyle and there is little impact to our lives on having them as pets. No one is going to flame you but keep in mind that you can't speak about generalities with dogs just like you can't say, "I can't stand kids". I like some kids that have been raised well and are polite, others I can't stand to be around because they are spoiled and entitled. I have both kids and dogs. I adore some dogs and can't stand others. Just like I like some kids and can't stand others. Sometimes, mine included. Ha ha!

sitting my sisters’ two well-behaved dogs, and oh my goodness how do do owners deal with that? The constant need to go to the bathroom, even for dogs that are well trained. The dog breath. The dog hair EVERYWHERE. The picking up of the dog poop. The sniffing and shedding and dirt tracking.

Please don’t revoke my American citizenship! I swear I’m not at Kristi Noem levels but I’m like “HOW?”

I'd ask it another way: how do you not? It's really . . . not that big of a deal. It's like any set of "things to do" in a day.

I love dogs, OP, but I don't particularly love hanging out with other people's smelly dogs either. Mine have hair not fur and don't shed or smell (or smell much less than average dogs). I love walking them, it's my "me" time that I can't do without. My dogs are very snuggly and their pure joy when return from taking out the trash makes me so happy. They are an absolute plus for me.

I agree. I adore dogs, but it's just fine if people don't. We get our used dogs from people who thought they wanted a dog until reality intruded.

I have also "inherited" many "used dogs" this way.

Yeah, we do all that. Love having dogs, don't know why everyone doesn't. It looks that way to others as they aren't your dogs, and you don't love them.

I agree. I adore dogs, but it's just fine if people don't. We get our used dogs from people who thought they wanted a dog until reality intruded.

I hit 'reply' too soon. Or is it really that you want to understand why people find dogs enjoyable, and you worded it weirdly?

I also don't know how people deal with having dogs. They have cute faces, but are dirty, smelly, loud, and gross.

My cat is infinitely cleaner - indoor only, cleans herself 20x a day. I vacuum every day so the litter tracking isn't big deal. Nor is fur is you brush cats daily. I get that some people still don't like them, but cats are significantly cleaner and easier to deal with compared to dogs.

OP, why would anyone flame you? Have you never met someone who dislikes dogs? I know lots of people who don't like dogs, it's not an unusual thing.
