Very similar story here. DS was extensively tested with recommendation for placement into program for highly gifted. Also top athlete. School was a constant struggle, some teachers loved him and had no problems with him, others disliked him and couldn’t handle him.
We also went to all kinds of professionals, psychologists, sensory integration therapy, social skills training, etc. The solution was to make sure to keep him intellectually challenged and physically busy.
He’s graduated from the very top schools, married, has a strong social circle, a job he loves. But, yes, it was hard, especially with so many contradictory opinions, plus we had to go the private school route at one point (all boys).

Respectfully, if the ADHD is so severe that he got kicked out of school then it won’t be solved by minor changes. Many of the parents on the SN sub have thrown the kitchen sink at it and are still struggling. I do agree with your point that early diagnosis is beneficial.

Find a therapist that will diagnose adhd before the age of 7, child find will act faster that way. Don’t worry about the label or think you will be forced into medicating. Small changes to diet, exercising the major muscle groups, acupuncture can all be beneficial as well.

Ummm that’s the definition of needing special education services.

Your child can’t regulate emotions well enough to be in a mainstream classroom.

I’m in NY but yes, people here move preschools for reasons like that all the time.

What’s aggression? Hitting? Biting? Pushing? My son wasn’t aggressive in preschool but he had meltdowns and difficult with transitions and they recommended we get him evaluated through CPSE. He ended up receiving in classroom support for OT and a private shadow for an hour a day. We also hired a private aide for another hour a day.

He’s 7 now and has an adhd and autism level 1 dx. He did end up with some sporadic aggressive behaviors at 5 when getting very overstimulated and upset at day camp. He needed a 1:1 counselor that summer to remove him from escalating situations.
