I just drove in. The main roads are fine but our neighborhood and some sidewalks have random patches of ice. 50/50 on 2 hr delay.

As a parent I’d prefer a closure. Our road is a lot of black ice, and the sidewalks are worse. If there’s a delay I’ll drive my kids in. Waaaaay too windy and cold to walk the mile.

I’m off of Braddock outside the beltway and the main roads are okay, but the side roads are very mixed and some parts are just bad. I think the busses will have problems in the neighborhoods in the morning.

No way will there be closure!

I just got home and the main roads are good, but the side roads are icy. Some are just icy on the sides, but some have icy patches covering the whole street.

They are spreading sand on our streets now, which will help. Some don’t get sun and they stayed icy.

Middle schooler safety would be achieved: buses are on the roads around 6:30, when it’s still dark and icy.

Our secondary roads are turning into smooth sheets of ice. The winds and extreme cold are turning the water to ice fast. The main roads are fine but the neighborhood roads were never treated and now have sheets of ice over them. This will be treacherous for the bus.

Yes, there is no snow, but the roads around many neighborhoods are icy. I am an experienced driver from Michigan, and these roads are bad. No sand, no salt, Virginia is unprepared.

There will definitely be school. There’s literally no more snow on the roads where I live, and it’s sunny. Kids need to go to school, winter break is in 5 days, gosh.

What would be achieved by a 2 hour delay? It will still be below freezing all day. I think we go on time.

I’m assuming so.

Our street is just crunchy ice right now and won’t get better unless treated since it gets little sun, but there are no weather warnings and while below freezing chill, it’s not bad at all.

Crunchy ice is easy to drive on. It is little to no risk.

Smooth ice is the treacherous ice, particularly black ice.
