I just read an article about why so many NE kids are going to SEC. A lot has to do with social media, and apparently the RushTok videos. They typically tend to be blonde blue eyed people. It's not about education; it's about being seen.

Neither of my kids are those types, and VA is as far south as they go. They also hate the humid weather.

Glad to hear DC is in a good headspace about it. Stanford is one of those schools you just have to acknowledge is a lottery. They could build at least 2 completely different, equally strong freshman classes from their rejection pool.

Not sure about Bucknell, but Holy Cross is a fantastic SLAC with loads of famous grads.

I absolutely agree!!

Our DD with similar stats took her ED shot with a different T10 school. She hasn’t heard yet, but either way, I’m really proud of her for going for it. She’s a great kid whose instinct is sometimes to play it safe/small rather than risk rejection/vulnerability.

It’ll sting if she’s rejected after fully owning that this school is her “first choice”. But kids can’t grow if they always play it safe to protect themselves from setbacks/“failure”/disappointment. True resilience comes from realizing they’re actually strong enough to handle those things (and then some!) It may hurt, but it’s not so bad that they need to avoid or even fear the risk.

I get that this isn’t hard for some kids. But for mine, it’s turned out to be a huge growth milestone. Cheers to every kid who took a big swing at ED. If it doesn’t go their way, it can be a lot to sit with until RD decisions comes out, but a big growth opportunity, too!

I think that is especially possible with NYU

My kid is at a stronger SEC school and I promise you, I’m not trying to eliminate competition. Kid had no interest in NYU, Northeastern, BU etc.

There are trolls on this site though, like the poster above who is obviously trying to get political about NYC.

I think it’s more like this poster. they have a kid at a Southern school with 85% admission rate and give every reason they can think of not to be going to a Northeast school. It’s the weather, the football, the school spirit, happy shiny people.

I said it is one of the stronger SEC schools. It absolutely does not have an 85% admission rate. But keep telling yourself that. I’m happy my kid goes there. Believe it or not you can get a good education AND have nice weather, fun sports, school spirit, and be genuinely happy.
