Many, many highly qualified students don’t get in to UVA for one reason or another that is no reflection on their intelligence or ability. My DD thought UVA was where she wanted, but she was waitlisted and offered the UVA Year In Wise option. She declined and is now very happy at another school and realizes that it’s a better fit for her than UVA would have been. In short - don’t stress. It will work out the way it’s meant to.

She has no way of knowing that.

+1. It’s very bad form on a post about GETTING IN to UVA that a mom posts sour grapes about not getting in .. and of course “it wouldn’t have been a good fit” - OK, if true, then then why did you ever apply? Why dirty up a thread about those getting excited about getting in with such negativity?

Ok, Tracy. I’m not dirtying up a thread. I’m preparing applicants for the likelihood of a rejection - as many more kids are rejected from UVA than accepted. They are great kids, too - and will find their place. Heaven forbid I voice an opinion that life can be great at schools other than UVa.

That could be said about any school with a low acceptance rate, so why single out UVA? Do you write that on every HYPS thread?

DP. Are you... actually comparing UVA to HYPS? The acceptance rates aren't even in the same stratosphere.

Are you seriously defending Harvard and alleging its superiors to UVA? OMG

Well, yes. Of course it is.

No, I’m making fun of the poster who seems to think seniors can’t handle a college rejection.

Yes. It’s essentially a day-care for nepo-babies.

Wasn’t Harvard at the root of the catastrophic loss for DEIA in the 2023 S.Ct. precedent Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard ?

Let’s discuss Harvard’s recent track record with hiring presidents.

Maybe if you’re only interested in the tippy top very competitive clubs, sure you might feel this way. But my kid and several friends are having the time of their lives and cannot fit in all the things they want to do! It’s a gem of a place. Good luck!

+1. Exactly. So what mom isn’t saying is that she’s paying $96k a year for private or $80k OOS public and kid either didn’t get into UVA ( only $40k) or (like my kid) didn’t have to record to be a contender. Or her kid did get in and they let her make a catastrophic financial decision of a difference of $56k a year x 4 = $224 loss). So she has to spew hate
