Double pierced ears are basic mainstream. There are some that have 20 ear piercings. More common are 4 or 5 per ear.

I don’t see a problem with two.

Right? I am genuinely curious - why? Really why does ear jewelry bother people? Why is it different than other jewelry? Because you have to make a hole? So? Do it safely.

I told my daughter 16.

Just allowed my daughter to get her second piercing at age 14 (first piercing was at age 10). We did tell her that this was the last piercing before she turns 18!

OP, I had double lobe piercings in high school, and the second holes closed up without a trace when I stopped wearing earrings there after college. This is really not a big deal.

You can get your daughter some pretty, high quality gold/diamond studs that are popular on Catbird, which seems to be where the teen girls I know like to get their delicate little earrings.

I have a ds, but about half of the (wealthy, somewhat conservative) teen girls I see have multiple piercings. The current style is for multiple tiny, "dainty" earrings: this is such a mainstream look! These are not going to be the kinds of girls who give themselves "stick and poke" tattoos as one crazed poster here predicted.

I mean, there is a not-insignificant number of people here who think any nail polish other than clear is only for wanton Jezebels.

My 16yo got a second set over the summer, it looks great and actually has me considering doing the same.

When she got her first ear piercings she was young enough that I couldn't find a piercer to do it (like a piercer in a tattoo/piercing studio) so I had it done by a pediatrician's office. This time around was with a "real" piercer and I was shocked at how much better she healed with it. If you can find a piercer who will work with children your age then that would be more important to me than waiting for other reasons.

My DD was around 11. 6th grade? I thought it was a very low-risk simple request to grant. She had a cool sense of style and I didn’t mind her getting a piercing.

I’m not sure why people say 16 or 18. A second piercing isn’t difficult to take care of and clean for a middle schooler. My kid is pretty wholesome and now has three piercings - she is 15.

No, but I think a more relaxed attitude towards things like a second hole at 12 and in parenting generally wouldn't have had me rushing out the gate like a cooped up racehorse ready to do any and everything I had been told "no" to.

Assuming you are now a fully grown adult, I can’t believe that you aren’t taking responsibility for your own choices. Your parents didn’t “make” you rush out at 18 to get piercings. Sounds like you were still young and impulsive (totally normal) and you made some choices that made sense to you at the time.

My parents were insanely strict and I didn’t rebel or go wild in college - I did start making choices they wouldn’t have let me do if I had been living with them, but that were things I wanted. But I don’t have an impulsive personality, so I didn’t get more piercings until I was in my early 20s. I never got a tattoo because I couldn’t decide on anything I wanted to have on my skin forever.

Is she good with taking care of them now? A second ear piercing now is not at all a big deal

Well, we didn’t let her get her first piercing until her 13th birthday. It has been 8 months and she has asked about a second piercing. I told her 18, but there is a reasonable likelihood we will relent for her 16th birthday if she has been consistently wanting this.
