I think the best option is just to announce in May, after the decision is set in stone. The relatives can just accept that they will have no influence by then.
OP here. This is funny because, come to think of it, my MIL did not conceal her thoughts about the name we chose for this child, either. This is a family where traditions run deep and certain things just aren’t [supposed to be] done. I still have trouble with it all these years later.
