No, the buses have schedules, multiple schedules for multiple schools and they try to work before and after peak traffic times.

I think a lot of families head out of town right after the early release-- either monday (and miss a day) or tuesday (trying to be responsible by getting their kids to school before leaving).

Generally, I like the idea though-- on non travel half days.

When we have late opening for snow, those days count. Do they serve breakfast upon arrival?

Good, I was thrilled to see teachers taking off but it was annoying when they assigned classwork/homework for things they haven't taught yet.

While I don't have an issue making in person teacher conferences, my spouse does. He works like 30 min away. Private sector mostly uses zoom and it would be a nice option if it were offered.

Half days count as instructional days. If they had one full day for conferences, they couldn’t count it as an instructional day. We’d have to tack on another day to the calendar.

Attend as a parent? It's about 1.5 hrs or less one night a year if in MS or HS. Hire a babysitter, or if you have a co-parent, one of you stay with kids.

If it's hard for teachers to be there for 1-2 nights, maybe the school ptsa can organize babysitting services through an after care program for potty trained and older kids of the teachers who are working late hours on one or two nights that week. English and Math teachers have conferences on Mondays, Social Studies and Science on Tues eve, other teachers the other night. Etc. Kids can also stay home on own after age 9yrs in most states.


Im just saying I would not like that time. My youngest is a toddler. Often the case for parents with ES kids. My ES kids are in bed by 8. We need that after school time to do homework, have dinner…. Things that are difficult to outsource. Obviously there are events we have to do this for, but I much prefer the earlier times and I think the teachers do too.


I mean, I’m a SAHM and I’d personally prefer every conference or PTA meeting or event were at 10 or 11am because I’m the evenings I’m driving around to activities, making dinner, walking and feeding the dogs, managing hw, etc. But every school event is at 6 or 7 to accommodate parents who need to work so I’m confused that working parents also don’t want evening? No time is going to satisfy everyone.

Because teachers have to be paid for that time and it's an unreasonable ask given they have their own families and lives.


It's not even about being paid. As a single parent, I'm not going to agree to something that means I don't see my kid after school for 4 consecutive days.
