Whatever you do, don’t make them feel judged. Sometimes the best thing to say is nothing. We must welcome these people back to reality.

NP here. I’ll be seeing mine over Christmas. They’re in deep, and I’m afraid will happily go off the cliff with Trump. My own parents are MAGA and continue defending him. He’s the true victim in their eyes. I don’t get it. They don’t know anything else. Their upbringing emphasized making a choice and sticking with it no matter what. For whatever reason this means a lot to them. Trump stands for something important in their eyes and even if causes their own kids and grandkids to lose everything, he needs to succeed and we all need to see the big picture.

NP... My own parents are 3 time Trump voters and were in pretty deep but started becoming disillusioned with the DOGE stuff and now don't seem all that thrilled with him anymore. My father-in-law has for years been lost down various YouTube conspiracy theories that he stays up watching til 3AM, but I've noticed he's also been talking about Trump less and less.

Trump doesn’t need MAGA anymore, but JD will if he aspires to higher office.

Trump doesn’t care about JD.

Trump is a mentally ill, demented narcissist. He does not care about anyone.
He is a brilliant con man, though. I'll give him credit for that.

Trump is the most gifted con man in the history of America.

But the MAGA base is finally sensing Donald Trump doesn't give a damn about white working class Americans. I think the break with Marjorie Tayler Greene is pretty significant. And she is gunning for those voters as she thinks about her political future. Throw in Tucker Carlson with all his issues with Trump. Add Nick Fuentes for the extremists. There are schisms all around for the Republican Party.

Democrats will likely win the House next November and I suspect they'll move to impeach Trump over a multitude of issues - from Epstein to corruption. This will fracture Republicans even further while Trump is a lame duck. It should be civil war within the Republican Party for the foreseeable future. And any Republican politician that has ambition will remove themselves from planet MAGA and that freak show.

But I've been surprised by the fealty of Mike Johnson and John Thune to the Trump grotesque before. So hopefully they get wiped out as things start to move quickly. And maybe we can have a sane GOP - Romney and McCain types - instead of this dangerous freak show. Trump is polling around 36 percent now - less than one year into his term. And that will decline significantly with each passing month. Trump is a sinking ship. But we shall see if Republicans believe in anything besides power.

The GOP is never going back to the Romney/McCain days. It is fully co-opted by populists and racists and people who are the opposite if fiscally conservative.

I think MTG learned something about Epstein and Trump. She got spooked and then seriously grounded. Because it’s 180 degree difference with her these days of late.

Well, not a 180 in terms of her political views. But she has my respect for admitting to Dana Bosh that she had contributed to the toxic political climate (i.e. resulting in death threats). She was very forthright about that. Also, the sheer fact that she had the guts to oppose Trump about the ACA--I'm in a state represented by craven Republicans, at least one of whom was a decent guy before Trump came along (he hides from the public a lot these days, comes out to mouth the talking points, and goes back to his hidey hole).

MAGA has much more breadth of political views and most are intelligent and capable of forming their own opinions. So you’re mistaking freedom of thought and expression of varying opinions for hatred of Trump. They aren’t the same thing.

That is so not true. Look at all the criticism of Biden over Gaza, of Obama over a ton of stuff (starting with not closing Guantanamo)--Biden's weakness with Netanyahu lost Dem votes. The Democrats have always had a wider range of views about issues than the GOP.

I read a rumor that she’s angling for a VP spot once the Trump problem gets solved for vance.

Thanks, but don't delve into politics just for our benefit. If the only way you can see them is by talking about other stuff... do that.

For me, visiting them is like visiting people enmeshed in a cult, like you can’t speak against the god figure and they will fire off the talking points trained into them if you utter a single word that isn’t praise of the god figure.

A constant theme here: threads about speculative Trumpet wrongdoings followed by a “did that work” thread
