Please excuse my naïveté. Can you explain?
Yes. There is evidence that Maxwell's supporters (attorneys and relatives) have been strategically leaking information about the Epstein case on Maxwell's behalf in order to have bargaining chips in their effort to get Trump to commute her sentence.
Exhibit A: You may recall that Maxwell was recently moved to a cushy prison (Club Fed) shortly after meeting with DOJ official Todd Blanche (who is also Trump's former personal lawyer). The context for that is that in July 2025, amid uproar from Trump supporters and MAGA influencers over the DOJ's refusal to release more Epstein files, RW media figures and online communities leaked and amplified reports of Maxwell's willingness to testify before Congress about Epstein's "client list" and high-profile ties (e.g., claims regarding the Clintons). This pressure prompted Deputy AG Blanche to visit Maxwell in prison for a two-day interview, after which she was transferred to a minimum-security facility and speculation about commutation began to percolate.
Exhibit B: The NYT story that is the subject of this thread refers to an email exchange between Epstein and Maxwell which suggests that Trump knew what Epstein was up to. The speculation is those emails came from Maxwell's camp. And that their purpose is to turn up the heat on Trump in order to grant her clemency. These leaks also contain an indirect warning: Commute my sentence soon or I will leak more damning info about you.
