Look at Arlington County publics. Arlington Magazine. Out of 4 high schools - 2,000 seniors only 0-2 total students are admitted to one of the Ivies, Duke, etc any give year.

I can’t believe this actually needs to be said, but…
Arlington Magazine doesn’t report ALL admissions (or matriculations).
It’s self-reported data.
This. I don’t understand others not understanding this.
Do you really think there are all of these Ivy acceptances that didn’t get reported?
Bless her heart
This. People turn down ivies for full rides elsewhere or better programs for their major (cmu for cs over an ivy).
Yes it’s why nobody from APS went to Princeton last year. Which has the best need based blind aid in the US

Which is why out counselor always said aim for above 700 in each section and you have met the threshhold for nearly every college.

That includes legacies, athletes, URMs, etc so you can cut those numbers in half (at least) for the unhooked. Probably even by 75%.
That would mean (very optimistically--assuming the unhooked are 50% of total numbers): 2 unhooked to Harvard, 2 to Dartmouth, 3 to Columbia, 4 to Princeton, 5 to Yale. Out of an entire county where hundreds and hundreds of high achieving kids applied. But yes, go head and submit that 1400. I'm sure your number will be picked.
Do public school parents not have access to Naviance? It's the dose of reality that a lot of parents of "high stats" kids need.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:The thing is, those lower scores are NOT AT ALL relevant if you're coming from a school in the DMV with a cohort of high performing students.
You're compared first and foremost against classmates and then your school district. Look at the stats for how many kids apply to each Ivy from a single high school in MCPS (or FCPS) or then the district at-large. It's dozens and dozens and then 1 or 2 will be admitted across the entire county. You can be sure that the 1 or 2 admits do not have an SAT in the 1400s.
The same goes for the top DMV privates. There will be 15 kids who apply to Brown (for example). Any admitted unhooked will be an
academic superstar with SAT of 1550+. This 100% was the reality last year when my oldest kid was a senior.
You have no idea what you’re talking about. I believe there are multiple ivy admits at every FCPS school per the school’s senior year instagram posts.
There were 41 freshman students enrolled at Yale from the entirety of Virginia last year.
