I'm was thinking of something like this as well. OP, are you celebrating in person with all of the extended family? In my childhood family we did not celebrate in person with extended family because of travel distance, but we kept a family tradition of opening extended family gifts on Christmas eve--and it helped by breaking it up, and by knowing that the gifts you really wanted (from parents/Santa) were still coming the next day, so less pressure on whatever Aunt Mary got you (often it was terrible, but we could laugh about it because Aunt Mary wasn't there, and them politely thank her on the phone later on). Now, my children's extended family is local--but we still celebrate with extended family on Christmas Eve and each family then has a quieter nuclear family only Christmas days on our own.
