UVA didn’t have to pay.
Sounds like extortion
That's because it is extortion. Too bad Cornell didn't fight it, but I guess they didn't want to have a half a billion dollars in research funds in limbo for years while the Trump loonies remain.

Oh, give me a break. They are settling because they are basically dealing with the mafia.
This. It's disgusting to see the federal government shaking them down. Pretty clear the schools won't be left alone until they give a press-release-worthy concession.
I read $30M to feds and $30M to farm research in exchange for releasing $1B in frozen research grants.
Too bad the universities didn't band together to fight this administration. Harvard hasn't made an agreement and the courts are ruling in their favor.
.I wonder about the Future Will they one back for more in 2 years. Will a Dem administration give them the funds to back?

Do you also blame the crime victim for getting mugged?
If they were going to cave to the POS Trump they should have done it before ED.
Explain why? Serious legal matters do not need to be timed to the admission cycle.
I doubt your kid applied to Cornell ED because it met some ideological purity test you are now retconning.
Kid chose not to EA to UVA because they caved to Trump.
It may have changed ED choice.
Again, your faux outrage is noted for the record. Withdraw the application with an email to Cornell about this violating your purity test.
Not my decision to make.
It’s shtty that Cornell did this AFTER the ED deadline so the kids can’t change their ED.
There are plenty of excellent schools where your kid can apply ED by November 15.

UVA didn't have to pay a fine and caved earlier. What does that suggest?

You are free to withdraw right now.
ED deadline has passed, dickhead.
Now kid can’t submit for a different ED.
That seems a small sacrifice relative to your level of outrage.
