The moral superiority about homecoming and how great her university is because they were too "progressive" for such things as a homecoming court. She conveniently doesn't mention it is a university that owes it's beginnings to tobacco and cigarette money. Tobacco money from a slave holding family which continued to profit after slavery on an economy built on the legacy of slavery.

But they don't do homecoming court, so there's that.

I'm aware of a large suburban public HS in my area which this year crowned an LBGT+ kid and another who had logged an enormous amount of community service hours as the HC King and Queen. Chosen by classmates. Seems like you have a preconceived notion of who is getting chosen by their peers and why.

Did you do any research, or did you just fire off this post?

Maybe check your own prejudices.

NP here. Who said anything about whether the candidates were straight? How would you even know that?

Also, did you read any of the surrounding story? WF honored the first black homecoming queen (crowned over 50 years ago) and she crowned the current queen (also black) and all parties seemed pretty happy to be involved. The alum sounds accomplished and I would like to know more about her (and her story may not have been told without being selected as Queen).

A quick search also notes that a vast number of schools select a Homecoming Court. Courts are also selected very differently. As usual, reality is nuanced and varied.

Did you look into anything before you posted on a public forum?


The poster was not referring to the original post. The poster was referring to the comments about genders and wokeness etc.

OP, in the movie Drum Line about the fictional Atlanta A&T University there's a homecoming king and queen. I thought it was tacky made up for movie stuff.
