Republicans have control of all 4 branches of government- Congress, executive, judicial and Twitter/fox. They can open the government at any time.

Republicans have said no one is getting paid for this shut down even the people forced to work. When the republicans do decide to open the government back up they plan to fire all the federal employees who were not deemed essential.

Good luck with your propaganda.

Bravo to them for trying to stop the Republican insanity.

You do realize what the Republicans are trying to do, don't you?

Only specific parts and persons. Thats not how this works. Vought and Co through Trump want to dismantle the government into pieces that benefit them and their wet dream of Judeo-Christian nationalism while throwing away those parts that help anyone who isn't white, rich, male, and Christian. If you fall into that group, they great they may give you a crumb. If you are adjacent to that group through marriage, then great you might get a piece of the crumb.

Fake news. The Republican bill wanted to allow Trump to decide who gets paid. The democrats wanted to make it broader and specify.

As usual Republicans tank the economy, bring the National Debt to absurdly higher amounts, us taxpayer monies for criminal activities nothing to benefit one VA taxpayer.

The BBB Act and Project 2025 destroy the economy and most people will be without jobs the great depression is coming and if you vote for Sears you are a complete and utter Anti American fool.

I guess you're fine with having widespread unemployment and an economic crisis as long as you can hire your day laborers for cheaper. Stay classy.

If Democrats had voted for the CR none of this would be happening.

Huh? Nothing in the article is related to the CR. Trump made permanent cuts to government jobs which impacted private contractors, plus his policies in general are not helping manufacturing and also causing a net decrease in exports/sales for private businesses. In general, private sector is being negatively impacted by tariffs and Trump's unpredictability. The stock market is propped up by a handful of AI stocks, but I think we are already seeing signs that the AI bubble is overhyped and bursting.

Not being able to find work in the private sector, sucks for us right now. Also contractors going out of business given people holding tight on finances and avoiding big spending projects. Have a few things we want to do but decided to stall or maybe DIY.

If Democrats had voted for the CR none of this would be happening.

If Republicans had opted to continue health care subsidies that millions of Americans depend on to stay healthy and productive, rather than enacting tax cuts for billionaires and spending 40 billion dollars to bail out the hedge funders who bet on banana republic Argentina, none of this would be happening.

Covid subsidies can’t continue in perpetuity. The pandemic is over.

What the right level is should be a matter of conversation, but not as a hostage negotiation.

Schumer is in a trap rn with no way out. His main concern is fending off an AOC primary challenge.

Support for health insurance premiums, which improves the productivity of workers and decreases the cost of emergency care, can be continued if the priorities are to support American workers. But Trump would rather support his billionaire buddies who barely pay taxes, so here we are--government shut down, federal workforce cut only to be rehired at more expensive contractor rates and with a total loss of reputation to the world. Virginia is the epicenter of all of this, with its proximity to DC.

+1

Why do Republicans hate workers?

Exactly.

What is Youngkin doing? Nothing. Neither will Sears.

Youngkin has expressed public support for cuts to federal workers. Earle-Sears is on record that she doesn't see cuts to federal workers as a major issue for Virginia. Voters can make their choice soon, and there's a pretty big difference between the positions of Earle-Sears and Spanberger.

Sears supports Trump’s attacks on VA.

Jobs.
Schools.
Immigrants.
LGBTQ kids.

If that is your position then you voted for this.

Sorry Russian bot--your programming has failed. No one who voted Democrat is for the Big Beautiful Bill tax cut for billionaires. Nor did we choose to have a President who bypasses Congressional authorization to give $40 billion to help his MAGA bro in Argentina get re-elected.
