2007. Searching for info on nanny shares.

In 2009. I was looking for a nanny share and someone suggested DCUM. Found the nanny share and never left.

Needed a nanny!

2007/8 ish. I was a young teacher looking for more info on the GT process and why the parents seemed so crazy. Took a break. Returned when I had my own children.

Looking for daycare for my now 16 year old.

I think it came up a couple times when I was pregnant and a new mom when I ran google searches for things like "nanny shares dc" or "moms groups dc." I think the first few times I was on the site, I probably didn't really even register what it was. It was just a random message board that maybe had a small tidbit of info that was useful to me. I never explored the site beyond those search results. At that point, even if you'd said "DCUM" to me, I would have said "what's that."

Then during Covid, I started googling broader questions like "when will DCPS schools reopen?" or "is everyone still masking outside in DC?" And I got DCUM hits again, but this time I stuck around and read more than a couple responses and got to know the site. I actually become VERY addicted to the site during Covid, it became a major outlet for me during that time when no one around here was going out much and my social life was down to just my husband, my 2 year old, my cat, and a couple weekly video calls with friends.

I've tried to quit it a few times and never succeeded. My presence on the site ebbs and flows a little bit depending on my mood and my workload. I don't think I've ever hit those Covid levels again though. Back then I spent hours a day on the site, sometimes late into the night instead of sleeping because I had terrible insomnia. I don't know if it was good or bad. It was something.

I’m out of state but googled something about salaries or net worth years ago and got hooked. Even with all the nonsense there I’ve found the college forum to be the most useful

I turned left at Facebook and there is was.
