Some examples for me:
The moment in Jacob’s Ladder when Tim Robbins is on the subway and a tail flicks out from underneath a man’s coat.

The moment in The Others when the dead servants glide across the lawn towards the house.

The little girls (Topsy and Bopsy) that follow Diana around in Lovecraft Country. No CGI, just extremely effective use of movement, dance, and costuming.

I’ve seen the Shining and Silence of the Lambs. Far creepier, IMO, is an earlier movie with Anthony Hopkins called Magic. I can’t pick a scene, because the creepiness builds up throughout the film. I’m not sure how I would experience it now, but I saw it in a theater when I was a college student— fond of reading Stephen King novels, and nothing I read creeped me out as much as Magic.

So, so worth it.

If you READ Outlander, the 800 page novels spread out the rapes (that sounds kinda bad but...) but Galbaldon's descriptive writing is sensational.
If you think of it, Jamie sacrificed his body to save Claire (many times actually) but for a man, that rape was the ultimate sacrifice and he wanted to die.
It was well done in the series too. Horrible but well done. I mean, what else could they have done?

Never started Game of Thrones because of this. I was interested in Dany but her plot arc sounded terrible and ended badly. I read some nice fanfic about the little noble runaway lady (Joan of Arc type) that was pretty good.

If you don't like late 40s costume dramas (present day for season 1) and aren't interested in Scottish scenery (landscapes, sword and musket battles, men in kilts) the rest of it will not be of interest to you. As with Harry Potter, liking the books (flaws and all) usually translates well into liking the film version. The production values are high, but the film versions are condensed and have the same plot holes and flaws as the source material. Diana Gabaldon is over-reliant on rape as a plot device.

The TV adaptation of Salem’s Lot in the late 70s when the little vampire boy floated up to the window and scratched on the glass of his brother’s bedroom.

I was very young (5ish) when I watched it and it gave me horrible nightmares. Not sure why my parents allowed us kids to watch it.

I read the first book when it first came out. I hated that scene so much, I never read another one of the books. I watched the first season of the series but skipped that episode entirely.
