Didn’t seem any different from any other LAC we visited. Seemed perfect for the DCUM demographic, and there were many such kids there when we went.

What really? It is much more southern and conservative than any of the LACs I visited with my kids. But granted, the others were in Pennsylvania and New England but still. I don't think it is perfect for the DCUM demographic, at least not my circles.

+10. The only VA schools I would consider paying OOS tuition for are UVA and W&M.

That’s odd because VT is ranked better than W&M.

No dog in this fight, but DD was admitted a few years ago. Was in the running for the Johnson scholarship but did not get it. Great scholarship. Not just room/board/tuition… significant extra money every year for whatever you want to spend it on. Was offered $40k a year as a runner up. Very pretty campus, boujee dorms with red leather couches, library has giant love sacs, chandeliers in the one dining hall. Bookstore is very brook brothers-esq. very Greek.., like 90%. All small classes. Amazing alumni network and grad school pipeline/job placement. Faculty is uber lib. Town is pretty conservative, small and isolated. Knew a few kids that went there and they all loved their experience.

I thought it was all male. It was in the Hampden Sydney, Hollins, Sweet Briar category when I was in college—for the rich less bright southern kids. But this was the early 90s. Even then WL was top of those.

As a native NoVA it always made me think of the HS in Arlington of the same name. (Renamed Washington Liberty)

I think they considered changing it and decided against?

Doesn’t help much when Lee’s corpse is in the chapel.

Only time I heard about the school was on the show 60 Minutes. They did a piece about W&L hosting a mock convention, held every four years. It’s a simulated presidential nominating convention held by the students during early stages of the presidential primary. It said that W&L's convention has the reputation for being pretty accurate on primary results.

yes there are always the “normal” schools like oberlin columbia and wesleyan for folks like you!

Name another college with dead confederates buried on the grounds. I’ll wait.

Quite a few with slaveholder names.

Most of the top colleges in the U.S. aren't clean from the original sin of slavery or anti-black racism.

I’ll ask again. Name another college with a confederate corpse on campus.

DP. Seriously? You realize UVA has a Confederate cemetery where 1,097 Confederate soldiers are buried, right? Are you suggesting they be dug up and interred elsewhere?

They’re not in a university building. You have to admit having the corpse of Lee himself in the W&L chapel presents a situation that’s in a league of its own.

It's just remarkable how you keep moving the goalposts. Your demand: "I’ll ask again. Name another college with a confederate corpse on campus." Answer: UVA. You got your answer, you twit.

More W&L charm. If you find this appealing you will have an amazing four years. Otherwise, find someplace less snotty (with zero reason to be).

I’m not affiliated with W&L at all. But I will call out dopey posters every time. Your posts are bizarre.
