I agree with him! Politics? Nope, these are values, not politics. The political ship sailed a decade ago. Right now, if you aren’t interested, don't care, or side with evil, nope, you are not a candidate for a relationship.

I understand breaking up with someone because you have different political views. Political views relate to your values, your worldview, etc. But breaking up because you don’t want to OD on political news and discuss it everyday is bizarre. I’ve been happily married for close to 20 years and can tell you that, while I think spouses should have some shared interests, you don’t have to have all of the same interests as your spouse or exactly the same level of interest in the same things. Plus, while I think being informed is important, in our current political environment, I don’t think ODing on political news everyday is very healthy. I think you dodged a bullet, OP.

Assuming you both agreed on issues around basic rights, I’d agree with this before the MAGA era.

BUT it’s a very different world in 2025.

Agree. If he really liked you I don't think he would mind as much. Sucks but it's okay, better to not drag on something that won't be good later on.

I am way more political, informed on legislation, politicians, Supreme Court rulings and I attend most protests in my town. Dh thinks I should chill out and that I worry too much. I wish he would recognize this awful path we're going down. I still wouldn't change him for someone more politically active, I love how he is and how I am. We can shake our heads at each other but I love every part of him, and probably would not be good if I had someone as passionate as me willing to take more action.

Could be that the bf is one of those many people who spends all day on Facebook and TikTok, potentially of either party, and is nuts and has extreme expectations of their partner.

Or it could be that op is an intellectual dud and the bf isn’t attracted to that. Even before these polarized times .if I ended up dating someone who did not follow news at all, that would speak volumes about them and their intellectual curiosity. I am not a news junkie, but I’m well read, well educated, well traveled and have opinions about stuff. If even twenty years ago, said to my partner, hey did you see that Congress passed that bill, and my so responded “huh, Congress?” We are probably not a good match.

Politics have become much more divisive since Trump came into the game and since he is still here I guess this is the way things will be for awhile.

I think for someone to dump you based on your political beliefs speaks volumes on the character of the dumper vs. the person being dumped.
