Former prosecutor sounds like a looney troll and OP needs to get a grip.

Neighbor replied, drop it.

Do you feel confident it was her who replied? You two need a safe word!

OP, what did she say specifically?

What does that mean, she responded very vaguely?

Did it seem like her usual language structure in text messages, or did it seem off?

Former prosecutor who can’t help thinking she’s tied up somewhere being abused while somebody else is responding to her incoming texts pretending to be her.

That is way outside OPs hands; and getting more involved will endanger her own life. They have her name and number, see?!

Suggestion: in front of the window where the dog was, throw something that would get the dog riled up. Such as dog toy, large dog snacks, etc,

Then point a camera at that spot and review the footage. Hope to see the owner or pet sitter at some point.

Hope all is well with the neighbor. For some reason, reminds me of the movie last year, Trap (2024).

She replied, she's alive, that's all you need to know.

Be a little more aggressive in summoning her to the door if you want, check in all the windows if you want.

Give it a few more days at least.

What the heck?

Not PP and I don’t agree with his/her take, but bad things have happened during welfare checks. Atatiana Jefferson is one example.

The cat ate her.

What about the dog?

Gosh you're so witty.

OP - Please let us know what happened. And if you haven't heard from your neighbor and still debating what to do, please take action. Better safe than sorry.

Thanks! Glad you are so impressed by me anon, but save the praise. I get enough of that from average people already.

Sorry it is not about you.
