Except, as the PP stated, VT is ranked higher than W&M. So if you're the PP saying UVA is "better" than UNC and Wisconsin because it's ranked higher, then you would have to agree, VT is better than W&M. And plenty of students choose VT for liberal arts, not engineering. It's an all-around excellent school.

I beg to differ, it was really interesting last year to see DD’s friends getting accepted or rejected from certain schools. If schools thought your GPA was way too high, they were not going to accept you - yield protection. Also, unfortunately, I heard of a handful of kids getting rejected due to AI detected essays.

Since we’ve all gotten used to those realities, is anybody going to be surprised if a public college does a little yield protection?
Yeah, you’re being ridiculous. “Yield protection” may happen, sure — never say never about anything — but it’s so typical DCUM that so many posters convince themselves that their kid is getting rejected by schools because the kid is too good to get in. Laughable.

You’re missing the point. The uva booster is blindly following USNWR. If that’s their argument then they have to also acknowledge VT is ranked better than W&M in USNWR.

The difference isn't necessarily rejections.

You cannot be serious. Wisconsin has an outstanding academic reputation for undergraduate education and world class graduate schools. That it’s not as selective in admissions doesn’t mean it’s not in UVA’s league. Of course it is.

That means they're very accurate as to the number of applications submitted to each of these schools--because the school district knows where it has released transcripts, etc.--but acceptances will be under counted, especially at less selective, lower yielding schools--because kids need to tell them where to send that final transcript in June, but there's no requirement to tick the boxes indicating that you also were accepted to JMU and ODU, e.g., if you're going to UVA.
