How was the mood off?
If you weren't there, why does it matter to you? DP

Are you saying this is police training

Kid saying that apparently someone ran into the building.

What is having this information going to do for you but scare you? Let the school and authorities do their jobs.
Because I was just about to leave my location to pick her up. Now I won't until she gives me the all clear.
And stop your bullshit. You'd want to know what was going on too, if it was your kid. BCC had two lockdowns for weapons last year.
I know. I’m at BCC too. But getting minute to minute updates from your kid on a cell phone they’re not supposed to be using during the school day doesn’t change the outcome of a crappy situation.
OP here. Just lay off, will ya: my kid was in PE, where the teacher cancelled the activities, gave them all free points and allowed cell phone use. I'm sure some DCUM readers are glad I made the thread.
Well if you’re sure that spreading rumors to the Internet at large is a great thing, congratulations. I don’t see the purpose of this when MCPS shared a communication to all those in the BCC zone very quickly.
New poster. What rumors? And are u fckking kidding? Families knew long before message from school or mcps. They have not improved communications as they said they would.
To the PP’s point that would be because kids are texting parents and usually without all the information which for some creates unnecessary worry and then people posting on DCUM and other places. The schools job is to assess and get a handle on the situation immediately and then communicate what they can out to families. If a student needs to be calmed down there are plenty of people in the building from teachers, administrators, and peers that can assist with that.
Here you are giving the school district grief about this when I think this situation highlights what a difficult task they have.

Another reason to keep phones out of classrooms.
No, its the reason to have phones.
So you can do what?
So the helicopter parents can ask to speak to the school staff and police officers trying desperately to do their job so the parents can know everything that is going on RIGHT THAT SECOND.
So sad that this situation has become so ho hum that you are heckling a worried parent.
Exactly! And when it’s your kid and they text that they’re in lockdown and scared, let me tell you, you’ll be glad the kid had a cell phone so that could communicate with you. And you can reassure them. And know what’s happening from someone there and not waiting for a parentvue message.
Signed,
Rockville HS parent
DP. No, we're not all nervous obsessives. I lived through a dozen bomb threats as a kid, and my parents didn't even know until I told them. If you have a modicum of perspective, you'll realize that being scared is insane. If you can't see that take your problems to therapy. Until then I'll heckle you all I want. You deserve it.
My kid was scared. I was able to help calm him down. Because of cell phones. If that makes me a nervous obsessive, fine. I’m not going to apologize for caring about my kid. Sorry you don’t.

Yeah phone were given back to the students as initially they called for a secure lockdown and we remained on it for about 15 minutes, before the AP corrected her initial call and clarified it wasn’t a lockdown but a secure.
Locks like despite whatever training MCPS claims they did with admin over the summer, that there's still not a good sense of when the schools are going into one status versus the other.
