This is just stupid. Many people consider Kenyon the better school. Both are great.


There is not a single major metric by which Kenyon is the better school. Rankings, endowment size, admissions statistics, profile of entering classes, grad school placement, peer reputation, etc. None.

If we are talking Princeton review - Denison ranks much higher than Grinnell in classroom experience, career services, happiest students, students who love their colleges, quality of life. Really Hard to say Grinnell the better school. Grinnell feels like a school with lots of unhappy kids. Read the newspaper - s and b. Lots of complaining and articles about widespread mental health issues.

In terms of selectivity, Princeton Review has Grinnell at 97, equal or higher than Amherst, Middlebury, Wesleyan and Carleton.

It has Macalester, Kenyon and Denison all at 95.

Grinnell is one school that scares me. Too big a risk that kids would not be happy there, and I have very happy well adjusted kids. Location isolating. Students strange.

I’m not conservative but I also don’t want to dissuade you from Grinnell. It’s a great school. Academics are top notch. But everyone is extremely liberal. No moderate views. Moderates are not allowed, and forget about conservatives. It’s a lot like Oberlin in that way. Or Reed or Vassar. That may be fine for some. Many kids can and do just keep their heads down. Denison and Kenyon have more viewpoint diversity. That’s important to me.


My Grinnellian is a moderate who leans left. I don’t think it’s like Reed, not even sure Oberlin is the right comparison. Maybe Macalaster?


I don’t doubt it. But the school and professors and students all push far left conformity. You have to agree or stay silent.
