If it's just the scan, I would have someone else take them, a relative or one of our closest friends. Make sure you confirm with the hospital what kind of written note you need to send if it's a non-family member.

If it's a follow-up appointment with a specialist who is only available that day and their next appt is in a few months or later, I would go to that appointment.

FWIW I've never gotten immediate results after a CT-scan for me or family members, and the only times it was same day was when they were admitted via the ER for something like a stroke. For out-patient, I've always gotten results later on on a separate visit. If you're not certain, message the provider and confirm when you'll actually get to discuss the results.

No way I would miss this appointment for anything work related.

Unless there is a risk that the heart defect would cause issues if not addressed immediately, I would do the presentation and move the CAT scan to a time that was feasible for me. I am assuming that the heart defect was something he has had for all of his life, and it was just detected now.

If it would harm him to wait, in any sense other than increasing his anxiety, I'd let my boss know and do the CAT scan.

These threads are always so gender biased. A man posting would not be told to be less involved in his child’s healthcare, prioritize work, fine to be absent for the testing, confirmation of diagnosis of a heart condition and next steps discussion, tell his kid and wife they can handle it and don’t need him there, and teach the kid a lesson that dad isn’t needed at his appointments.

There is huge value in showing her kid that not every health event is a crisis worth missing work over. This sounds like it can be managed non-emergently and missing an important presentation for a CT scan is absurd.

How urgent is this confirmation? If this is urgent because he needs to get life-saving surgery rapidly, then everything else goes out of the window.

If this is very important, but not life-and-death urgent, your husband can stay with him while you present.

If this is important, then perhaps you can reschedule to a few days later and both come with him.
