My school has had free breakfast for all through a grant. Your school might qualify. Google Maryland Meals for Achievement (MMFA) program.

Just don’t send your kids with phones. Easy.

1. Real discipline / consequences for poor/illegal/dangerous/disruptive behavior. Can still do therapy, counseling etc but behaving kids shouldn’t have their learning compromised by one disruptive kid in class.

2. Support gifted, accelerated kids. Keep magnet programs. Do not try to bring them down to the mean. They WILL leave the county schools and MCPS will falter. Also our society needs highest performing folks to go out into the world and do good efficient productive work.

3. Yes to textbooks. Allows kids to go back and review material easily without searching through endless web pages. Kids/people learn better when learning from a printed page. Studied in this- teachers should be given these studies in their training. The math workbooks in ES and MS are excellent! More of this please.

3. No to drivers Ed, free busing to private schools, only all gender bathrooms (kids will just hold their urine and not use the bathroom- esp at MS level, their are very self-conscious around opposite gender).

All Gender bathrooms does not mean boys and girls use the same restroom at the same time. It means single use bathrooms with a lock that any student can use. Logistically it wouldn't work in any of our schools because they would need to pipe in like a dozen additional bathrooms.

The free busing to privates is only for kids in MCPS paid privates as MCPS failed them.

Do your kids have cell phones? What grades? How do you propose they communicate with parents on schedule changes?

Omg lady - about 16 states have COMPLETE phone bans at public schools this year. They need to be done. They have ruined kids and school. Stop with the schedule changes lol

If you don’t want your kids to have them don’t but stop expecting MCPS to parent your kids as you will not say no and set limits.

The problem is many classes with no textbooks are hard to follow and set kids up to fail. Some kids do better with structured teaching. What’s going on now clearly isn’t working.

Most college courses don’t use textbooks.

Yes they do. It’s near impossible to pass ap and other exams without textbooks. It’s insane kids get pdfs or audiobooks for English. If you look at the academic decline it’s directly related to when they removed textbooks and changed teaching.

Yes they do and so do most elite private schools

Why?

1. Cleaner, 2. more private, 3. entry doors can be monitored making it easy to identify perpetrators of vandalism (and much less likely to result in the group punishment of entire multi-stall bathrooms being locked, which is otherwise ubiquitous in MCPS buildings), and 4. more inclusive.
