The other direction, maybe warrenton.
Warrenton is not a small town.
Ottumwa, IA. -- but you will never be an insider there if not born in the county. Lots of things are closed on Sundays too. It is straight out of Mayberry RFD.

Cape Charles is a great option.
Lived there for a few years. Had my car broken into three times. Schools are terrible. Food Lion infested with fruit flies. Local politics are crazy. Vibe is odd.

Think Stars Hollow or Mayberry. The kind of place where people greet each other as they pass, there are annual town festivals or traditions, the architecture is charming, maybe historical, crime is so rare that many leave their doors unlocked, children roam reasonably "free range" without fear, etc.

People would let me know that they saw me getting gas at x station at y time two towns over and would ask why I was over there. It was in a friendly agnostic way but I never got used to it. We definitely didn’t lock our doors.
