Nope

It’s from PPP ”loans” during COVID that were never paid back and flooded the economy with cash.

Restaurant workers are the most well organized politically. These guys always manage to get pay increase.

Some days I wonder if I should work as a server instead..And tips are now kind of mandatory.

Bananas have already increased in prices.

The things that are gonna increase are every day items like toothpaste, soda in a can because of aluminum, shampoo, soap, toilet paper, paper towels, napkins.

The next will be increased in the cost of clothing. Fall clothes were imported in May before tariffs . You won’t see the increase until winter clothes.

Also wears the promise that everything was gonna drop in prices? We haven’t seen a drop in anything. Not eggs, not gas nothing.

Agree with this except come on—gas and eggs decreased in price.

Agree that the other priceeffects would come soon. Suppliers had inventory + increased inventory given all the tariff talks. That inventory will diminish.

Gas in 2016 was $2.14 and eggs were $1.68

Why did he exclude aircraft, OJ and energy products? I thought were immune to tariffs?

Jerome Powell will turn out to be correct for this last episode. I think they messed up post covid as usual (but that's just the nature of the beast, if corporate America cries we all show up with a bunch of pacifiers to appease them). This time though he is reading the data they have correctly. Now the 2 governors who dissented in the way they did should worry everyone who is concerned about the independence of the fed. Dissent is great. But please dissent with your own independent thoughts not because you want to go with the bandwagon.

Some my divorce I have been closely watching my finances. I buy the same exact food items from the same store once a week. I compared the receipts and prices clearly have gone up.

Why do you think they want to us a check? It's because they know inflation is coming and they are trying to spin it.

We will probably only see it in our monthly expenses and budgets. Every week I have to cut something else out of our grocery shopping to make it work.

What worries me most is that even if inflation were to jump to say 5% they will not cut down the tariffs because of ego. We are doomed. I want them to succeed because my livelihood depends on their success. So I have no incentive for them to fail.

Unfortunately these are very reach people with a lot of assets and cash. And they are talking among one another while we are outside the door trying to listen in

I am really scared. If you are one of their supporter, don't blindly trust them. I don't criticize your choice, I just hope that you don't put your ego before the country because you don't want to be wrong.

Now if you succeed and the economy goes through a boom with God laying job, I'll be the first to congratulate you.

Oil and gas people have already been laid off due to low price of oil and steel tariffs. Can't drill baby drill if you tariff the resources needed to drill.

Tariffs move slowly through the system like a rat through a snake. But ultimately the tariff reaches the consumer as everyone up the chain realizes they have to pass the cost along so they can maintain their profitably. Over time the end user absorbs the cost because they can’t pass it along to anyone else. It doesn’t happen over night but it happens.

Businesses will absorb tariffs the same way they absorb higher corporate taxes, right?

Let me know where you live because almost everything I bought for back to school was ridiculously expensive.
