It happens again: someone stopped in the left lane of 66, leading to someone's death.

There is NEVER any reason to stop on ANY moving road unless there is serious emergency. No car just stops right there - it slows and you can get to a shoulder.

I am so tired of moronic and selfish drivers.

SHE CHOSE TO STOP. DEAD IN TH LANE. OF A HIGHWAY.

I honestly cannot believe you DON'T think she's 1000% to blame.

Her vehicle didn't stall. She stopped to try and get out of the express lanes.

Please surrender your driver's license if you think this is remotely acceptable under any circumstances.

DP. You have no idea what happened there Sherlock. But even if she was at fault for stopping the vehicle that slammed into her is equally if not more at fault for not stopping or maneuvering around.

Where did you learn to drive?

In California but don’t worry any driving school in DMV will be able to teach you the basics when you are old enough

The DMV is where you get licensed. This is the "DC area," transplant.

- learned to drive in Northern VA 30 years ago, and am aghast anyone thinks the woman isn't chiefly to blame. Don't stop in the middle of the highway. If you can't understand this, you're unfit to drive.

What do you care if the lady were to blame, care about your own driving and keep your eyes on the road

Seriously? Bad driving affects us all. I absolutely care about other people’s driving.

Yes but this thread is blowing out of proportion the alleged bad driving of the lady. Maybe she stoped on purpose but it is much more common to encounter a stopped car in a driving lane due to an accident or just stopped traffic. So instead of trying to be an insensitive jerk on anonymous forum just drive defensively to avoid a situation like this one in the future

Ok, person who inconveniences and endangers everyone else on the road. Or you can take this as a PSA to stop doing this dangerous behavior, because you could be next.

You are minimizing just how dangerous and senseless this is. You are an awful, incredibly dangerous driver.

Or, if you're about to end up in the EX-pass lane, better to incur a fine than end up dead. But they probably should never have been in the left lane to begin with.

I see drivers doing dangerous shit like this all the time - stopping because they're in the wrong lane and about to miss their exit turn, or in a place they don't want to be. Lingering in the merge/striped area. It is so incredibly stupid and dangerous.

The right and only answer is to keep going at a normal, steady state of speed, and then take the next exit and turn when it is safe to do so.

A good driver sometimes miss their turn. A bad driver doesn't.

https://annandaletoday.com/more-details-emerge-on-beltway-crash/

That stretch of 495 can be especially hard to navigate. You’ve got cars coming from three main routes merging together (the beltway, 95 north, 395 south) and the HOV lanes starting and multiple lanes on the right merging left. I do it regularly and have to take the Braddock exit and it’s nerve-wracking every time.

We have accessed the HOT lanes there after coming up 95 north and it can be tough making the way across to them from the right lane.

Because this insanity happens all the time. People need to know, call out her incredibly reckless, selfish, and fatal decision, so that others take note and stop trying to make dangerous moves so they don't miss their turn/exit/lane.

Dumbass is 100% to blame. You don’t stop in a travel lane unless it’s an emergency. Missing your exit isn’t one. At least she won’t be on the roads anymore

This is true.

Yet still not an excuse for doing a serious infraction such as making an illegal uturn.

Doing so exposes you to oncoming traffic that are trying to make legal right turns and you could cause a serious traffic collision where you could possibly hurt another motorist.
