I will tell you what is gets the wheels spinning…I have been sending D3 Alumni Donations (only in the $100’s range ) and 2 years ago, I was both treated to lunch and given a phone call from the Athletic Director thanking me for donations. But also to let them know if/ when my kid is ready to apply there.

Both are small gestures, but it makes me wonder if I were to add another zero to my next donation? Maybe a free round of golf? Lol -I think that’s completely normal, but it gets folks chatting for sure!

These types of families can pay whatever they like and easily create their version of their daughters "recruiting" journey. The parents blast these pictures and announcements all over social media and linkedin. This post exists because many people see the marketing effort that has gone on for years. People in the soccer community know the joke, won't call them out to their face because it's not worth it and rip on them behind their backs. That's the entertainment value of it. Their "recruiting" journey was get good grades and your parents will push and pay serious money to get onto the bottom of the roster. Not only are they not scholarship athletes, they are donating money to the school and the women's soccer program. There are versions of these types of players all over the DMV (Duke, UVA, UCLA, Georgetown). They won't play a competitive minute at a school like this...ever...Duke has a loaded roster again with a new coach. For the girls that were recruited to play at a school like Duke, have the talent and ability to really play and compete in the ACC, it is an amazing accomplishment and it should not be diminished by POSERS.

This is pure BS. Duke is not selling spots on the team. Cannot happen after varsity blues. Coach and AD do not have that autonomy. Not just Duke but at almost everywhere.

This is pure BS or an uneducated response. Large donations can, in fact, help you get into elite universities. It won't buy your way in but will help you significantly be accepted over someone who has similar qualifications but no donation.

Varsity Blues inflated test scores and bribed officials. This is not the same thing.

Probably a lot of valedictorians wasnt to go to Duke. Most of their parents are not able to write checks with a good number of zeroes after turk to the school.

[b]Not for Duke but for similar schools I set up compliance programs after Varsity Blues. Believe what you want. This is not happening -- to get into the University -
- sure -- to get on a sports team -- hard no. All schools eliminated this after Varsity Blues.

I'll tell you what I don't believe, you. Nor do I believe 85% of the people on this board who claim to be "experts" or know something about something. Why? Because they are full of tish. This is one of the biggest troll boards I've ever seen. It's 4Chan without the overt hate speech.

Where do you think the people live that do things like PP said above? Almost all in DC. Most of the people know what they are talking about.

This is a Mclean kid right? I remember a thread on here before about other Mclean kids who have worked hard on the field but also have connections that most don't have. Like dad is part owner of DC United connections. This is going to happen in Mclean, Bethesda, Arlington (ahem, North Arlington). Life isn't fair.

I have been on this site for decades--on and off (I know, that doesn't say a lot about me, but it's a nice diversion when I have writer's block). I am certain that I have never seen a post that drips with as much jealousy and resentment as this one. I'm not sure why other posters gave it an ounce of credence when it is clearly another parent trying to tear down a young athlete. It's pathetic, actually. And I don't know anything about local soccer.

Unfortunately your feelings doesn't make it any less true.

Exactly. This is completely different than varsity blues! Those people were using money to get into a school. These girls could’ve gotten into Duke by themselves – they are very bright and have all the stats and ECs etc. They’re using the donation to the athletic dept to get a spot on the team. They’re not using the donation to get into the school.
