Being in division A is purely ruined by Rockville. Why would anyone want to swim against them there is no fun

It's really not as bad as you might think. What I hear from the families of the other division A swimmers is that competing against the Rays is a spiritual experience. Some even find inspiration knowing they breathe the same air as the Rays.

I've also heard that when Rays are in the pool with other teams, the water just feels a little different.

Some parents are just obsessed and monitor all the kids, which is creepy and take the fun out of swimming.

I think a lot of parents actually want to move down divisions where it will be more fun.

It's not much more fun in the lower divisions. There are two types of parents, those who have club swimmers that are pushed to win (so that the team wins A meets), and those whose kids swim only during the summer and don't care about winning meets. This creates a bit of a tension and can tear a lower division team apart.

Not true. Over the years, we've been in B through F and and I would say the best in terms of being in the fun but still competitive sweetspot is D and E. Once you are in the top 3 divisions, it's mostly going to be year round swimmers swimming A meets.

I would argue that C is fun too. Our team’s division (which has varied over the years) really hasn’t impacted what % of non-club kids make A meets. We have some club kids who are very strong but barely make A meets because their cohort just happens to be extremely strong, and other age groups where many non-club kids are making A meets.

Not Darnestown?

Darnestown beat Country Glen in the Relay Carnival and Dual Meet

Both teams could move up

Doubtful. River Falls struggled but they’d still beat up on anybody in B. A Division is just light years ahead of B. I’ll bet one team jumps up to take Potomac’s place and that’s it.

The place where it always gets interesting is D-F. Teams are all interchangeable there and there’s usually some weird and significant movement.

I don't know how big most teams are, but I think you could split the rays (200 swimmers) in half and have two 100 swimmer Division A teams.

Your kid probably still wouldn't swim A meets and whose going to pay for that? Normal is 150-250 swimmers. 100 swimmers wouldn't work with A meets.

OK, so some of the kids on a wait list could get in. Your kid wouldn't even get a ribbon at a rays B-meet.

Nope. They don't matter at all.

Reps haven’t been notified but I’m sure the simulation was run

Not necessarily true. A smart lower division team puts their highest level of enthusiasm into the B meets. It helps to have the A meet kids swim up at those meets (even up multiple age groups); they’re excited to try new summer distances and they’re giving their direct cohort time to shine.

B and C will be good divisions.

A will continue to be no fun. RV >> SB, SG >> WM >> RF, and one of DT and CG.

I am betting DT instead of CG. Also PO to C, MCF to B.

+1. PO should drop to D, but they will eventually end up either B or C. I think RF could also drop to B and both DT and CG move up to A.

It is no fun to swim against them. The kids and coaches are not as motivated knowing they are going to lose.
