Yesss! I agree that even though the OP did not specifically use the term unfair they were implying that clearly by claiming that they had to take a uber to work. What did they expect ? You do not follow the road rules the authorities WILL tow your car, it happens every day to every Tom, Dick and Harry, why should OP get special treatment?
You run a red light, you do not wear your seatbelt m, you make an unauthorized uturn you get caught then you WILL lose your driving privileges temporary.
note; and how would all of us know about impound regulations in Ca?

I was just surprised the officer impounded my vehicle > I expected tickets but not losing my car.
Luckily I was able to retrieve it from the tow yard to get it properly smog checked.
No, this was my first ticket, I have never even had a parking ticket.
And it happened in CA = Southern to be exact!
Are you having fun trolling? Vehicles can’t be impounded in CA unless registration is expired for more than 6 months.

It cost me $633 to get my car out of the tow yard.
I got a permit from the worker at the impound lot, it let me get my car out but I had to register my vehicle and test the emissions or I would face a stiffer penalty.
I didn’t know in CA a car couldn’t be impounded unless 6+mos. expired!?
If this is true PP, then I may be entitled to a refund though I doubt I would actually receive a dime back.
So fight it, if the above poster is correct.

Why are you here on a DC forum asking about matters specific to California? Don’t you have a local forum?
It is annoying when people from areas other than DC/Maryland/etc come into this forum and discuss matters that apply to other areas of the U.S., especially those that are on opposite coasts. This forum is designed and geared for DC, and DC o-n-l-y.

Not the op but the post is completely open to individual interpretation imo. Some may view the choice of words as complaining about being treated unfairly while others may read them as stating simple facts and asking a simple question. Pp you are overthinking this way too much.

That doesn't make sense. What if you are stopped 2 blocks from the impound - does the car get impounded again?
I mean, it's not like you can bring inspectors with you as you are paying the fee.
So it doesn't make sense to me to impound a car with expired tags if you can't get an emission test and registration before you pick it up.
You are arguing that cars should never be impounded for emission or registration violations. There's a way to get the car to a registration and inspection station. It's called a tow truck. That's how it got to the impound lot.

But on the other hand - how much longer does OP need to do emissions and registration? Another month, 2 months - 6 months... really, where does it end? This is all on them and there should be no complaints or blame other than to themselves.
Yup. You'd complain. Don't deny it. And the "where does it end?" is used by people to enact stringent punishments for minor crimes. If you're OK with that, don't start whining when they apply to you. I find that the most raucously punitive people are usually the first to complain when they get trapped in their own machine.
