The NRA supports gang shooting? I love this idea that criminals use legal guns. They are using ghost guns which are not registered. They are impossible to track. The NRA does nor support ghost guns. Also, the US Attorney in DC let's tons of criminals put on release who have committed crimes with guns. I was on a grand jury in DC and it was shocking how many felons are walking free in DC with a gun. They are not apprehended unless the commit another felony.
Kid's boss was endorsed by the NRA. Of course criminals aren't going to use legal guns; they have too many easier, cheaper ways to get them, because the NRA and their disciples flood the world with guns. More guns, more firepower, fewer speedbumps to getting a gun. The average legal gun owner has 4-5 individual weapons; there are whole conventions and trade shows with trucks stuffed with guns. So of course it's going to be easy for criminals to get them.
If there were simply fewer guns, fewer criminals would be able to get them. Do you hear about a lot of stolen Ferraris? No. Because there are very few Ferraris compared to Hyundais. This shouldn't be hard, if it weren't for the right-wing death cult. Guns should be rare, expensive, tracked, and have a real-world purpose. Hunting, fine. Target skill shooting, fine. Arsenal for potential gov't overthrow? Insanity. Like the gravy seals are going to go up against the US Army. Deluded. Unhinged. And totally supported by Ron Estes of Kansas.
Criminals do not get their guns through lawful channels.
Lock up felons in possession for ten years, plus the local gun possession charge, plus the other associated violations. See how fast the problem goes away.
No, they steal them. Which is easy, because there are SO DAMN MANY OF THEM. Reduce the guns, reduce the gun crime. That easy.
Very easy- There are SO DAMN MANY Criminals. Get them off the streets, HARD, and watch what happens. Every time you lock up a criminal for legit year's and charges, the crime goes down, because each of them is obviously committing crimes consistently. Criminals will find a way to get weapons and guns. Mexican cartels would just get even more powerful if they became the more exclusive supplier of weapons. Get the criminals, and the crime shrinks. DC is against this, as well documented on this forum thread.

we are told there are 600 mass shootings a year, but you can only find 100 total committed with legally opened guns over 40 years. Seems like legally owned guns are used in a tiny percentage of mass shootingsAnonymous wrote:A significant number of mass shootings in the U.S. involved legally obtained firearms. Between 1982 and September 2024, 100 mass shootings were committed with legally purchased weapons, while only 16 involved illegally obtained guns.
Approximately 60% of guns used in crimes in the United States were originally legally obtained. This statistic is derived from various analyses of gun trace data, which indicate that a significant portion of firearms involved in criminal activities were purchased legally before being misused.
For instance, a report highlighted that among traced crime guns, a substantial number were initially sold through licensed dealers, reflecting the ongoing debate about gun ownership regulations and their implications for public safety. This data underscores the complexity of gun violence issues, as many firearms used in crimes are not acquired through illegal means.
There are 400 million guns in America. 400,000,000 guns. four hundred million. That is insane. It’s a plague, a public health crisis, and a disgusting shame.

Yes. Someone else was shot near the Mt Vernon metro station.
The other shooting was in the daytime - a US Marshal shot and killed a person who (according to reddit rumor) had tried to rob him. No official details on that one because the feds keep things quiet.
This is really sad. I live in the area and don't think things are meaningfully worse than they've been. And they are better than during peak pandemic. But gun violence is a scourge.
The Marshall shooting was late in the evening. There are lots of stories about it in the media.

We haven't tried real violence interrupters or really defunding the police. That's why these policies failed. They didn't get enough support.
