Why can’t they fill the stadium? Seriously, it’s a bad look.
The team sucks and has for decades.
I went to UIUC and it was the same thing. They were good in the 1980s and the stadium was full, then they just sucked for 30 years and kids, alums and locals have better things to do with their time.
It is same with the Commanders, they were terrible for a long time the stadium had been half empty for years until last year.
If UVA is any good, the fans will come out. It isn't like VT where they were awesome for like 20 years and just recently started being terrible. The VT fans know they can turn things around if things break their way, but UVA fans have no memories of their glory years.
It seems a bit sad that the measure of higher education for many is how good the football team is and whether the stadium is full.

I don't want to start a huge argument. Please just educate me on what makes UVA so strong. Why do your kids who go there love it? What do they love about it that is unique to UVA?
UVA has a unique history, being founded by Thomas Jefferson with involvement by others like James Madison. Jefferson designed the initial grounds, which is widely recognized. It has some crown jewels, which create a halo effect. The law school is probably first and foremost, since many of UVA's most notable alumni graduated (e.g. Ted Kennedy, RFK, RFK Jr.), but also graduate business (Darden), and undergraduate business. The overall endowment is one of the largest among publics (but public financial support for higher education in Virginia is below the national average, this has to offset that). It is smaller than the mega-sized state universities (e.g. Florida), which are city sized on their own. It is similar in size to Cornell and Penn, but much larger in undergraduate enrollment than Ivy league schools like Princeton.
Jefferson was a slave-owner.
Obviously. Does that invalidate his other accomplishments, including his involvement with the founding of UVA?

Virginia Tech to my surprise at my W school is getting a lot of kids with very high GPAs going.
Getting popular.
My kids ranking was
1) UNC
2) Virginia Tech
3) Penn State
4) Pitt
5) UVA
She did not like UVA or Pitt as much as wanted that huge Football and Sports culture with Frats etc. The whole school experience.
And UVA was very expensive.
Sadly Binghamton and UDell offered her big money to go and she would not budge on that. Even more surprising JMU offered zero money. But VaTech offered a small merit aid making JMU more money.
I was secretly happy she did not like UVA it is very expensive. But sad she got turned down UNC. I loved it there and so did she and OOS tuition is not that bad
I never heard of UVA growing up. So means nothing to me.

How is this different from ANY highly rejective school? I guarantee you that every school in the top 30 or even top 50 is full of the smartest, most competitive kids. If you don't want "competition" and "sharp elbows" then send your kid to a school with an admission rate of 80% or higher.

Most of the parents on this forum are obsessed with rankings. Most of the kids who aren't shooting for an ivy, want a rah rah school. UVA has both.
JMU is a nice school. Football team is pretty good. So, kids will have fun there.
We are from OOS and just went to our kids graduation. Our area is affluent and we are surprised at how few kids are going to liberal arts colleges. And most of those that are going to one are going to play a sport.
