I like these too. I hate any shoes that feel like plastic/rubbery- like Archies, plastic Birks, etc.

Shearling slippers, either Eddie Bauer or LLBean.

My grandmother had lots of issues with her feet, bunions and hammertoes and such that ultimately required surgery. I took her to one of the follow up appointments with her podiatric surgeon and he kindly took the opportunity to advise me, ~30 years of age at the time, to wear my Birkenstocks that I was wearing every opportunity of my life because they were the best shoes on the market for foot health.

I have Birk sandals that I wear out and about and Birk clogs that I wear as house slippers basically at all times on my tile and hardwood and carpeted floors.

On occasion I will walk around barefoot, mostly outside on grass or when I visit the beach - it's important to spend some time exercising the proprioceptors in your feet especially as you age, to keep balance intact for those late night dark trips to the bathroom and back which is when many elders experience falls.

The ortho who treated me for a broken ankle and the subsequent plantar fasciitis I suffered told me that in general walking barefoot on hard flat man made surfaces is not at all ideal for foot health and should be strictly limited.

I wear socks at home on our hard wood but don't have an issue with slipping.

I cannot wear Crocs unless I am outside gardening and using water. They cause me to trip all the time when walking.

The Croc "scuffs" and catches on the floor, interrupting my gait, then I have to do a half step to keep from tripping.

I mentioned it to a nurse friend and they said the same thing for them, they don't understand how other nurses live in Crocs and don't trip like we do.

Anyone else experience this? Do we just have an odd gait?

+1

Oofos are also amazing.

OOFOS are the best. My feet crave them at the end of the day when I come home from the office.

You might want to ask in the health forum.

Yeah, me either until I turned 40 (athlete so I have a lot of wear and tear, it might be older for most). I have foot pain from arthritis, especially in my arches and ball of my feet. Lots of people get plantar fasciitis as well. If you don’t, you probably will.

This. Ceramic tiles are even worse for plantar fasciitis.
