Ms. Vermillion was hired. She transferred from a local MCPS high school. So that is one admin with prior MCPS high school admin experience.

I have no idea but I suspect that could have been a factor. Things were a mess under the old principal who was replaced with an interim principal Dr Bostic. I assume most staff gave notice without knowing the interim principal would be made permanent.

Many staff are unhappy with Dr. Bostic - there’s a lot of talk that isn’t backed up by action. The union was heavily involved this spring to try to mediate. Examples: 1. Spring testing and AP exams were a significant problem, with nothing done to adjust and make it better even though teachers and department chairs gave many suggestions. 2. Teachers were not told what they would be teaching next year until the last day of school. At that point in the year, many positions at other schools were already posted and filled, leaving little time to make moves if teachers were unhappy with what courses they were given.

This post rings true. I previously worked with Bostic. He is a nice guy but he wants to be liked by everyone so he says yes to everything but then never follows up with what he promised or agreed to. He is also very good with promoting himself to central office. He has ambitious and lofty goals but the hard work of actually getting things done is sometimes lacking.

It was not collaborative and very top down. It demonstrated to staff what they would be getting under this new leadership.

Is this related to the power outage or the day the kids couldn’t log in for testing? I’m not sure how Dr. Bostic is responsible for either though DS taking APs found it very stressful. The AP schedule is dictated by CB so please be specific.

We are obviously not referring to that day which affects ALL STUDENTS, not just Wootton.

It is too much and difficult to explain here for someone who does not work at a school or is a teacher who is proctoring these exams. It’s one of those iykyk situations.

Iykyk. Impossible to explain but here goes nothing. Keep in mind this was 5 weeks of testing with a block schedule and 5 minutes between classes/proctor duties.

Many teachers taught the entire day without planning time. Many did not get lunch breaks. Many set up for exams, proctored for 90 minutes, did not have a relief proctor in time to go to the bathroom before rushing to teach their 90 minute class. Classes were left unattended while teachers proctoring waited for their relief proctor, sometimes that person not showing up. $5 per exam from the college board for hiring subs, yet only 1-2 subs a day hired. Why wasn’t the entire amount of money spent?
Teachers gave feedback early on about this. We were ignored. Nothing changed at all during the process. It showed complete disregard for teachers who were proctoring during their planning and still needed to teach their classes. If this happens again next year, I’m out.

As a parent, I was under the impression staff and students were happy with Dr Bostic. This is the first I’ve heard any complaints or concerns. Can current staff or former staff comment on this? From DS’s perspective, he thinks Dr Bostic has been great and I like the communication from school and when incidents arise, but I value staff input.

This was with Dr. Bostic as principal for 6 months. Staff knew this was “acceptable” as well, which they don’t agree with.
