Say, 1/5 of those don’t get visas in time (too many?) would that mean a cut of about $3.5 billion from the US economy (assuming tuition plus living costs are about $70k per year). Obviously the likes of Harvard would have no trouble finding substitutes. Who would this cut hit?

Why would US parents be panicked?
Because universities can't afford to operate without international student full-pay tuition. So either their kids' tuition is going up (expect big increases next year) or what their kid is getting is going down.
They’ll admit full pay domestic US citizens from the WL to replace international full pay.
I personally know 10 full pay kids on Harvards WL. I’m sure between all of us we know 200+.
This isn’t hard. It’s a choice.
This. I have a 4.0UW 1550+ DC and am ready to go with the $95K check.
I personally know at least a half dozen more who would have that contract signed tomorrow and check deposited.
It's not like there is a dearth of US kids with top grades, scores and money.

But we are American citizens living abroad- maybe it’ll help her get merit aid in the states since we are an expat family?? Sigh, we really need to find an alternate citizenship- my parents should’ve stayed in the UK instead of moving to the US, what with the tax penalty for expats and the ginormous tax rate that gets us nothing, expensive healthcare, retirement and college, its very costly and i dont have any confidence that the state department will actually be of any use to US citizens of color who get into trouble abroad. A robust state department was a real plus back when but now that’s gone as well. It’s infuriating how expensive American taxes are compared to how the government provides no benefits compared to the rest of the developed world. (my family immigrated from our home country b.c my father would’ve been killed for his religion and many Asian/ African origin American citizens are in a similar situation)

Trump will be blocked.

Will these ivies be forced to reopen their WLs? Its almost June...
There is no issue with the visas for this year. Harvard got a TRO as will everyone. For the next year there could be an issue.
As a full pay family of a current high school junior, this is music to my ears.
Except Harvard will take a lot of Questbridge students next year.
