On the butter thing….at one point some humidity or something got in my camera lens and I was permanently blurred. A colleague mailed me an external camera to use and eventually they sent my laptop in for a repair. So I feel like the butter is a short term fix before someone sends you a new camera. I am with a PP in that I don’t see how blurring the lens would be acceptable if you can’t turn the camera off. Just leave your camera on and if you really need to make a face, turn away like you are picking up a dropped pen or grabbing a notepad. This isn’t complicated but I also don’t know how you can get through a meeting without making faces.

Just turn on your camera like everyone else. ✅ Done. Problem solved.

I have 2 screens, camera on one screen. I can either look directly at the camera or i can turn to look at the other screen so my side profile shows at an angle. Maybe you'd prefer the latter view?

I am usually camera on, but sometimes in meetings where my role is to listen or I’m there to make a decision but I’m not presenting or viewing anything on the screen I can focus so much better if I’m just listening and pacing around and not seeing teams and email pings constantly where I can’t help but read and get distracted.

People who are in the office shouldn't have to be on camera for the benefit of the work-at-home slobs who are wearing sweatshirts, dirty hair, gross skin but are blown up on 4 feet by 5 feet TV screens in conference rooms.

Would this be in place of the usual group of people trolling?

And if you're wearing a mask on a zoom meeting, you're just going to look completely crazy, and people will be taking screen captures and making memes out of you.

I guess you could smear butter on the lens of the camera. Yes, do that. Definitely do that.

This just gave me a great idea. Thanks.

I’m curious why you think it’s acceptable to blur yourself out if your manager wants cameras on. If I was your boss, I would find that manipulation of my rules even more frustrating.

turn your camera on or find a new job that meets exactly what you do and don't want to do at your JOB.
