I've been buying ingredients to make a pie for a Memorial Day cookout. I sh*t you not, I've spent over $35 to buy flour, butter, sugar, and the fruit going into it. INSANE.
SureOP, sure. Butter, flour and sugar will run you $15 max- all pantry staples. No fruit is in season except strawberries, and those are not costing you $20.
Butter: $8.50
Flour: $8.79
Sugar: $5.99
Berries: $7.50
Add tax. $35.
Go back to your expired food section in the lowest of the low store, Carol. I bet you buy flour with weevils in it, then brag about how thrifty of a shopper you are, lol.
You’re not using all 5 lbs of flour and sugar in you pie. Well maybe you are if you’re a fat a$$

My groceries went from $275/cart to $400/cart in 2021. Been about the same ever since, except for Aldi. I do feel like their prices have gone up a bit, but still super cheap.
For generic stuff, Aldi is up 20% recently compared to a few years ago but they held out for longer before raising prices and shrinking packages to weird sizes. They also go up and down in response to specific produce shortages, since they have such low profit margin in their supply chain.
Aldi has always had some name brand stuff that went up like everywhere else.

Bananas more than doubled at Aldi in the last four months.
The organic sugar at Aldi went up about 30%.
Those are the two I can think of most readily, but DH and I buy 50% of our groceries there and the bill has gone up considerably.

Or you can pay $1.49 each.

This is OP. Thank you for the link but I stay away from bag of onions. The innermost 1-2 onions are almost often rotten. Also, the link shows $3.99 per 3 lb and not $2.79.

Unless you buy at a DC farmers market, like Eastern Market, where buying enough strawberries to fill a pie really does cost $20
