I own five t-shirts. My hair is very difficult and generally barely looks presentable. I never look nice.

That’s a reasonable thought. However, he’s new and has very little work so far. He’s also the only one who used one of those zany Zoom backgrounds. His office is right across from mine, so it’s not like he HAD to because he was WFH and didn’t want to show his bedroom or whatever. And he didn’t have to use a goofy background.

Now you're just being absurd. You have an issue with his zoom background? You sound obsessed with your younger colleague. Jealous much? Are you his boss? If not, MYOB and unclench.

Yep, owning 5 nice shirts and showering regularly is a requirement for success in my book.

I'm in tech so we've always been on the casual side of things. When we had an office, the only time we were ever required to dress up was when we had important clients visiting or investors. We're now 100% WFH and we never dress up.

My pet peeve is people on-cam with messy backgrounds. Like, piles of dirty laundry or unmade beds in the background. Or super stained, dirty carpets. Use a background filter!!

A solid color shirt looks fine on zoom. I wear solid color v-neck tops all the time and they look professional on camera or in the office. It’s not that big of an ask to dress in a business casual manner during the workday.

I have a white oxford button down next to my computer and I change into it whenever doing a 'professional' meetings. I don't usually change for internal-colleagues meetings, but always if I'm meeting with someone I don't know well.

I meet a fair number of CEOs of small/medium-ish enterprises (thousands of employees but not tens of thousands) and NONE of them are ever dressed up. Not baseball caps, but definitely sweatshirts. I think their meetings with me are always on their WFH days, which they consider very-casual days.

I'm also the less important person in the exchanges, so I'm fine looking a bit more professional than them.

I'm 100% remote, and how I dress up depends on who else is on the call. If it's just an internal call with my team, I'm fine wearing a hoodie/t-shirt/something similar. If it's with a client or a higher up at my company, I'll wear something a little more presentable.

WFH slobs with dirty hair, no makeup or even moisturizer, horrible camera angles, baggy sweatshirts with bad backgrounds are soooo horrible for morale. Ew.

I run a consulting biz with some colleagues and we all dress professionally for all calls. I'm a woman and I do my hair and make up anytime there's a chance I will be on a Zoom call (we are fully remote). I haven't experienced what you're describing.
