Facile and inaccurate. Try again.
Anonymous wrote:MAGA hears "defund the police" like they hear "the right to bear arms" ... as a standalone statement, when in fact it is one part of a larger position.
They love to leave out "A well regulated militia" and just look at the part of 2a that serves their little-boy Rambo fantasies.
And defunding the police isn't an end in itself. The point is to have more social workers, addiction counselors, and mental health professionals doing the jobs that police are called to do now, and for which they are wildly unqualified. Fewer menacing black SUVs and less full combat armor roaming our streets would be a bonus.
I can't imagine the police actually like responding to call after call for mentally ill people, or passed-out drunks. Wouldn't they rather have professionals who are trained for that responding to those calls? And if the funding were shifted, wouldn't that mean that the police department needs less funding, since they'd be addressing actual crime instead of the misfortune and misery of the most vulnerable? Why would police departments (and the right wing) be opposed to having the right people for the job??

The only due process illegal aliens should get is the process of kicking their law-breaking butts out of the country.
Anonymous wrote:I don't dislike law enforcement. It's just they were everywhere, layers deep in our non crime suburban area, instead of where they should be, the much higher crime areas.
They don't want to get shot or do the hard duty, I get it.

But knowing that "not everyone has this experience" isn't enough to make you dislike law enforcement? I've never been victimized by LE. But I've seen them victimize others, and that's enough for me. I don't turn a blind eye until it affects me personally. Egad.

Not that you care but that was painted by protestors, not the city, and DC never defunded the police. In fact MPD currently has their highest budget ever and are offering generous incentives in order to recruit many new officers.
But of course regressives have never let the facts stand in the way of their impotent rage. Republicans and getting mad at situations they made up in their heads, can anyone name a more iconic combination?
PP doesn’t want you to know about the portion of the police budget skimmed off to (former) Councilman Trayon White’s “violence interrupter” scam:

But sure: “dc didn’t defund MPD”![]()
