Also do any of these Catholics have math that is above Algebra I at the middle school level? (Geometry/Algebra II). To put them on pace for more advanced math in high school.

Was there a reason you chose parochial over MD for your own kids? Did you think MD/Prep was a good experience?

Do you have a sense which parochial in this area near Prep are rigorous (I agree with you on that point and it is very important to me)?

Also, does anyone have feedback on staff and headmaster leaving MD? Similarly, I saw the principal at St Janes is retiring and I heard she was very good at running the school.

Yup, that’s right.

Some of this is driven by where the father, uncles or even grandfathers went to high school. Some years there are more Gonzaga families than others.

There is, of course, a good reason for Prep to accept boys from a number of local schools. They want to be seen as an alternative and this keeps them front and center as a high school that boys from that school can apply to and be accepted. It also means they have a continuing, long term relationship with the staff at the K-8 and there are other parents at the parish that parents of prospective applicants can talk to to get their input on their son’s experience.

Overall, it’s just a good idea for Prep to include as many parishes as practicable.

But the suggestion about looking in the archives of Parish Times for May editions is a good one. It will give you an idea of where the schools that list the high school destinations of their graduates are sending them. (Not all schools participate in this. But for many it’s an opportunity to trumpet the achievements of their 8th graders and a subtle ad for the school.)

All kids at Mater Dei except a few go to either Prep or Gonzaga. A couple go public or SJC. Some years more go to Prep and other years more go to Gonzaga

Look up Our Parish Times, their May edition always includes lists of parochial school graduates with high school destinations. St. Jane is there.

But honestly the parochial schools closest to Prep send the most graduates there, just because those families want Prep. It's not a situation where one parochial school has a much better relationship with the school and has more pull in the admissions office.

MCPS kids will be peons in the "meritocracy" of the real world... They'll likely take 5 years to finish at Salisbury too.
