Our experience with multiple coaches the parent coach will always play the kids of friends & family. We have seen this happen over and over again. If you question them your kid will almost NEVER play- no matter how talented. Go with a team that has a coach with real experience and no vested interest in a few players. Good luck.

If I had to drive all those miles and pay those costs and my kid didn’t play I’d be furious.

If teams do this, then how do they keep a full roster? You have to get real game time IQ somewhere and at this age all kids should play. I mean honestly, what is the point if you never see the field?

Also take into account how many kids are on that roster. If the roster is huge, also not good.

M&D DC hands down. Tons of real coaches with tons of experience. BLC allows parent “coaches” who have little to no coaching experience.

agree- have a elementary age daughter on M&D program and there is no fair playing time and it is becoming detrimental, definitely not a good model for the young ages and how to build out a team or program - makes no sense.

Imagine being on a travel team at this young age where your kid doesn’t play. Thousands spent on hotels, gas, tolls and dinners out, fighting the brutal summer heat just to see your kid standing on the sidelines. Makes for some tough car rides home.

Interesting take on BLC. How do they split the playing time? And how hard is it to make the 2033 Orange team as they are now?

Not every BLC team has a head coach. The ones that do, still welcome parent "coaches." Unfortunately.

May want to check your facts. BLC has paid head coaches for almost every girls’ team.

The question that this post was purportedly answering asked about BLC vs M&D DC coaching generally, not the 33s specifically. What I’d say is that M&D DC coaching is typically more consistently good across all grade years than BLC. That’s largely driven by the parent-coach model of BLC that can be hit or miss on quality of coaching and the extent to which the dynamics of favoritism (perceived or real) among coaches for their daughters and their closest friends breeds bitterness among the team.
+++++1 We also saw this too at BLC. . A number of talented players were repeatedly left on the bench because of this. Very damaging for young kids who don't understand what is going on.

If the main person at starts is still around (SW) then I would avoid stars. Supposedly they have a new director but not 💯 sure.

Does anyone know for sure if they have a new director? That would make a big difference.

Yes they have a new Director. Marc Jimenez has been the 31 light blue coach and run a lot of their clinics. He’s excellent

If a kid can make both teams, your vote would be M&D DC over BLC Orange?
